Southern and Northern Celestial Planisphere - Giovanni Maria Cassini
This product consists of two canvases: southern celestial planisphere and northern celestial planisphere.
SOUTHERN CELESTIAL PLANISPHERE
The elegance of this print is undoubted. As well as the original eighteenth century, this faithful reproduction was also made with a manual press, by means of copper plates engraved by capable artists and craftsmen. In this way, the print is characterized by a discreet relief, which gives the characteristic tactile sensation that the incisions can create. The paper on which the constellations are printed, as well as the lower cloth, is made of 100% pure cotton: the technique is that of the tear-up frame on canvas, used in past centuries to make transport and storage more practical. The result is therefore a work that, despite being a reproduction, is from time to time a unique work, characterized by a great historical, cultural and artistic value.
NORTHERN CELESTIAN PLANISPHERE
The northern celestial planisphere of the Cassini - as well as the respective southern celestial planisphere, which you can always find on the pages of our online store - was originally printed in Rome, at the Calcografia Camerale. Here it is reproduced in an absolutely faithful reproduction, given the use of an old manual press and a set of finely engraved copper plates. The result is a work which, due to the technique used, the materials used (pure cotton paper) and the quality of the work, is absolutely valuable, paying homage to the maximum degree of the historical and cultural value of the authentic specimen. Then the elegance of Cassini's design does the rest.
